About the Artwork

While this Web site focuses on the artistic output of DC-afflilated African-Americans during the 1920s and 1930s, in the period known as the "Black Renaissance," the site also pays homage to today's artists who draw from the same inspirations.

Artist Derrick Vaughn contributed the artwork that appears on the front page of this site. A 1992 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, Vaughn is a Washington native and continues to call the city home. You can see his work and that of other area artists in the special section, "The Legacy Continues."
